About

Vibhoothi is a Researcher in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin and a member of the sigmedia.tv research group.

He sits on Board of VideoLAN (Vice-President) Non-profit organisation, and is an active contributor to open-source initiatives including the Alliance for Open Media (AOM) and Xiph.Org. Within AOMedia, he co-chairs the Extended Chroma Format (ECF) and the 12-bit support for AV2 focus groups. He is also part of Review committee of IEEE conferences (ICME, QOMEX, ICASSP, ICIP, PCS) and IEEE Transcations in Image Processing Journal. He is also part of Technical Committee of Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) of IEEE Signal Processing Scoiety (SPS) as Reviewer. He founded IEEE Student Branch of Trinity College Dublin, and was chair from 2022 to 2025.

In 2025, he received his PhD from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) under the supervision of Anil Kokaram. His thesis was titled “Automated Video Encoder Parameterisation from Streaming to Cinema”. He previously earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Amrita University, India, in 2016.

His research focuses on video streaming technologies, with a particular emphasis on optimised transcoding, energy-efficient streaming, Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO), High Dynamic Range (HDR), and next-generation open codecs (AV1/AV2).
